REPORT

The Department of Mathematics constituted a mathematics club for the academic year 2019-20 on 1st August 2019. The first meeting of the club was inaugurated by Prof. R Suresh, HoD Mathematics on 7th August 2019 at the 3rd Year B.Sc Mathematics class room. .All students of the department are members of the club. The student co-ordinators of the club are Ancy M (Third year), Archana Krishnan (2nd Year) and Arathy B( First year).

Activities of the Club

As part of the National Mathematics Day celebrations the club organized a mathematical quiz competition for the higher secondary and college students on 22 December 2019. 30 students participated in the competition. Mr. M J Jinto, School of distance education University of Kerala, Palayam won the first place. The performance of the participants were encouraging.

            The club organized an exhibition  highlighting the achievements of mathematics in different areas in life. We combined real life situations and environment with mathematics. We constructed a mathematical village which highlighted the importance of mathematics in day to day life. We made a model for the seven bridges problem which was settled by the great mathematician Euler. We made a model for Utility Problem which is essential for solving the housing problems in the urban life. Also we made a model for travelling sales man problem which is useful for airline traffic.
