Economic Forum
An initiative of Department of Economics, Government College Nedumangad
The Economic Forum of Government College Nedumangad strives to engage students of economics in various academic and extra-curricular activities. It attempts to extend economic education beyond the classroom. Every student enrolled in the department under both undergraduate and post graduate courses are members of the forum.

- The inauguration of the activities of Economic Forum for the academic year 2019-20 took place on 21st June 2019, Friday at 12pm in the 1st DC class room. The programme was inaugurated by Smt.Sibi Natuvilakkandy, Head of the Economics Department. The students were briefed about the functioning of the Forum in this meeting.
- The Union Budgetfor 2019-20 announced by Ms Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Government of India, in Parliament on July 05, 2019 was live streamed for the students of the department in the seminar hall of the college. This was followed by a budget discussion.
- Faculty and Students of the Department of Economics participated in the Union Budget discussion at Mathrubhumi Channel Studio.
- An Alumni meeting of the department of Economics was organised on 21/07/2019.
- A wall magazine in which students display their works of creativity was brought out by the forum under the title “Oikonomia”
- Members of the Economic Forum took active participation in the discussion organised by Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation (GIFT), Thiruvananthapuram on 26/10/2019 in connection with the award of Nobel prize in Economics to Abhijit Banerjee, Esther Duflo, and Michael Kremer “for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty.”
- Under the aegis of the Economic Forum, the faculty of the department conducted UGC-NET class for the first and second year PG students of the department.

- An inter-class quiz competition on Indian Economy was conducted for the students of the department by the economic forum
- Economic forum organised a campus cleaning drive on 10/03/2020
- Srikanta Kundu, Faculty, Centre for Development Studies (CDS) took classes for MA students as part of association of the Economics Department with CDS under the K.N.Raj Fellowship Programme
- The Department organised Two Day National Workshop on “Macroeconomics: Changing Perspectives and Paradigms” on 6th and 7th November 2019 and a One day workshop on “Pedagogy of Economics: Changing Perspectives and Paradigms” on 18th November 2019. Economic Forum was key in helping the department organise the workshops.
