General Library
The General Library of KVSM Government College is located in the heart of the institution, providing various services to users such as students, researchers, and teachers to cater to their information needs. This library has a rich collection of resources and is designed to collect, disseminate, and preserve knowledge for study and research purposes. The library has a collection of about 27,000 books, including reference books and books for competitive examinations. The library subscribes to 9 newspapers (6 in Malayalam and 3 in English) and 18 periodicals, including periodicals for competitive exams. The library follows the DDC classification system and has a well-maintained reading room.

The library is automated with open-source software KOHA, which is updated from time to time. Besides housekeeping operations such as acquisition, cataloging, and circulation, a Koha-linked in/out management system (gate register) is also maintained in the library. Apart from providing printed resources, the library has a digital section. It provides facilities for accessing e-journals and e-books by subscribing to N-List (National Library and Information Service Infrastructure for Scholarly Content) from INFLIBNET, which enables the authorized clientele to access e-resources. Through N-List, we can access more than 6,000 e-journals and more than 199,500 e-books. For this, the library has 4 computer terminals.
Our general library offers various services such as reference service, library orientation, current awareness service, in-house remote access to e-resources, previous question papers, internet browsing facilities, and OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) for book searches. The library conducts various programmes, including literary competitions, as part of Library Week

Library Rules:

  • Strict silence should be observed within the library.
  • Use of mobile phones, consumption of food and drinks are strictly prohibited inside the library.
  • Students are admitted in the Library and Reading room on production of Identity Card.
  • All the personal belongings such as Textbooks, Bag, Umbrella’s etc. should be kept at the Property Counter.
  • Every member sign the Gate Register.
  • Reader should not mark, underline, dog ear, write, tear pages or otherwise damage the library documents.
  • Should not disturb the classification sequence of books while checking out books from the shelves.
  • Should not take out any books or materials from the library without being registered them by library staff.
  • Members are eligible for borrowing books from the library as follows:
    • Degree Students : 3 books
    • P G Students : 5 books
    • Teachers : 10 books
    • Non-teaching staff : 5 books
  • The Books are issued for 14 days and they must be returned on or before the due date.
  • Sub-Lending of Book is not allowed.
  • A book can be renewed for further one term, if the book is not being reserved by any one.
  • Overdue Fine @ Rs.1/- day will be collected for delayed returns.
  • Loss of Book by the borrower should be reported to the Librarian immediately to avoid fine and must replace with the latest edition or remit as per govt. norms.
  • Members have to return all books and clear all dues, before they register for the last semester university examinations or are issued Transfer Certificate whichever is earlier.
  • The staff working in the college shall also obtain clearance certificate before leaving the college or retirement. central university of Kerala library opac
